Millipedes
Millipedes are similar to Centipedes, in that both are long slender arthropods (not "true" insects) with many legs. However, Millipedes are not as flexible or fast as Centipedes, and Millipedes have two sets of legs per body segment, while Centipedes have one. Overall, Millipedes can have 30 – 400 legs.
Damage
These slow, burrowing insects curl into a coil when disturbed. Millipedes seek out dark, damp places like the undersides of rocks, plant mulch or in plant debris. In the fall, they may migrate into homes seeking shelter and moisture. Overripe fruit and root crops can attract Millipedes.
Location
Millipedes are found throughout the United States.
